Message	part is making the cuts without the actual controllers. you could clean the silicone a bit with denatured alcohol. What I usually do is put a spot of gel type crazy glue on each corner, then run a bead of silicone on the back side without smudging it, let dry and you would have no need to use a hose/tubing to fill any gaps.
